Wow – I feel like I keep saying “wow,” but this is pretty wow-worthy!
This idea that was hatched when a few readers pined for the good ol’ cookie swap days (pre-gluten-free, of course!) and a gluten-free blogger friend brainstormed with me to figure out how to do it – quickly! – took on a life of its own! In one short, very busy month, gluten-free folks from Baltimore to Bangor, Canada to Cleveland, took time to share their tried and true cookie recipes in real holiday spirit. The Gluten-Free Cookie Swap was born.
People just kept giving and giving, until we had over 75 amazing cookie recipes (in addition to the 16 I shared) and oh so many mouthwatering photos!
Everything from biscotti to pizzelles to gingerbread men and Girl Scout Samoas (yes, that recipe is really posted!).
This bank of cookie recipes is positively incredible, and judging by the comments posted, has already inspired many of us to get back into the kitchen this holiday season to bake up a storm with renewed hope and assurance from other real gluten-free folks that the recipes will work! (It inspired me to make my Cranberry-Almond Biscotti!)
I could never possibly go over all the amazing cookie recipes posted or the heartwarming comments (you’ve got to check them all out to believe it!), but I will point out some highlights before I announce this year’s winners.
- The most posted type of recipe: Various creative incarnations of Peanut Butter Cookies
- 2d most posted type of recipe: the Snowball/Russian Tea/Mexican Wedding Cookie (who knew it had so many names?!)
- Most Unusually Named Cookie: “Peanut Butter Hamsters” (Katie Chalmers)
- Most Apparently Healthy Cookie: “Better for You Chocolate Chip Cookies” (Erin Elberson)
- Most Unusual Cookie Ingredient: “Smoked Paprika Chocolate Chip Cookies” (Amie Jo)
- First Posted Recipe: “Simple Chocolate Chip Cookies” (Becky Hawkins) – posted at 6:19am the 1st day of The Swap!
Ok, so now for the winners!!! (drum roll, please!)
These 3 cookie recipes garnered the most “likes” (aka votes) when the votes were tallied December 15 at midnight.
3rd Place Winner:
Chocolate Chip Cookie Truffles (Maggie Savage – SheLetThemEatCake)
(wins one 5lb bag Jules Gluten Free All Purpose Flour & my 2010 Holiday Baking E-Book)
2d Place Winner: Half Moon Cookies (Linda Swirzewski)
1st Place Winner:
Cut-Out Cookies (Wendy Rose – CandyHeartsBlog)
(wins Jules Gluten Free Holiday Pack)
Congratulations to these winners, and to all of those who shared their recipes — we’re really all winners of this fantastic repository of gluten-free cookie recipes!
The Gluten-Free Cookie Swap recipes will remain posted even though the contest is over, and we will endeavor to compile as many as possible to organize them for you (any ideas on how to do this are most welcome!) This is truly a resource that should not be lost or become stagnant! Keep posting and keep swapping those recipes!
*Note: while the vast majority of recipes were posted by regular gluten-free folks, there were many gluten-free bloggers who joined in the fun and shared the Cookie Swap with their readers when they shared a recipe as well.
These gals + 2 guys have some great blogs which you should definitely check out sometime (I apologize if I miss anybody -not everyone linked to their blogs):

This was such a WONDERFUL idea! Sharing is what it’s all about! I LOVE IT! I had begun to copy & paste some of the recipes into word docs. & wrote out some by hand that I have already made. This cookie swap had inspired me to make one cookie recipe a day to give lots of cookie gifts this year. My freezer is getting full! Joyous and Happy Holidays to ALL! Thanks again, Jules, for this great idea!

I had fun baking with the kiddies. I have a few friends that have told me I need to start a blog. Maybe in the New Year!
This was fun

Thx, Jules, but I should clarify that I only did the baking one cookie recipe a day for a full week (and this weekend, too), so you probably have me beat – ha-ha! But I plan on baking all day tomorrow. I just finished making a huge batch of your graham crackers from scratch & they taste EXACTLY like a graham cracker – AMAZING! I’ll be able to make my son’s favorite cheesecake for his b-day next week & his dad will be able to eat it, as well.

You could organize them by the predominate flavor or by the cooking/preparation method: Cut out cookies, no bake cookies, refrigerator cookies, etc.

Is the recipe for classic pizzelles posted anywhere? I have a pizzelle maker that I have not used on years.
Jules said: on May 15, 2011
Hi Vickie, unfortunately, I still need to get a pizzelle maker … but here’s the recipe for Pizzelles posted on the Gluten Free Cookie Swap! Let me know how you like them!!!
Vickie said: on May 15, 2011
Thanks so much! I looked for a while and couldn’t find it so I appreciate your help.
Jules said: on May 16, 2011
Vickie – no problem! The easiest way to find a recipe on the Gluten Free Cookie Swap is to go to the photo albums and search by picture – each photo is linked to a recipe or a link. Enjoy! Hope you’ll participate in our swap this year!

I cannot seem to find the recipe for pizzelles on your website. Is it posted anywhere? I see the picture
(Classic Pizzelles from Trish Pecharo Deitemyer).
Would love to have the recipe.
Thank you.

Hi Sandra – if you go to the Gluten-Free Cookie Swap on Facebook and search the “Photos” tab until you find pictures of pizzelles. Click on those pictures and you’ll see the recipes associated with those pictures! Be sure to check back frequently as the Swap will be going strong again come the end of November!
